I recently finished The Big Short in both the movie and book versions. Both very satisfying. The book focused very intensely on the financial disaster in 2008, explaining how the market fell apart and how a few small groups were able to profit from it. Obviously someone with a very heavy financial background would not find either option intense, but I consider myself financially savvy and found the book to be rather complex and technical financially. Both the film and book spent significant time developing characters which, while enhancing the story, did little besides take up space if your goal is to learn what the hell happened in 2008. One annoying idiosyncrasy is the use of real names in the book and pseudonyms in the movie. Great story, well told.
